In this blog, we’ll explore the many benefits of brass garden lights, the latest in lighting technology like dim-to-warm GU10s and garden dimmers, and how to enhance your garden with the beautiful glow of festoon lighting. Let’s dive in and discover how you can elevate your outdoor space!
Why Choose Solid Brass Garden Lights?
Brass is a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material, making it an ideal choice for outdoor lighting fixtures that must endure the harsh effects of weather. Whether you’re battling rain, snow, or extreme heat, solid brass stands strong. Over time, brass develops a unique patina, which only enhances its beauty, making each fixture more appealing as it ages.
Key Benefits of Solid Brass:
- Durability and Longevity: Brass is one of the most robust metals, able to withstand years of exposure to outdoor elements. Its resistance to rust and corrosion means your lights will look just as stunning in years to come as they do the day you install them.
- Elegant Aesthetic: The rich, warm tones of brass complement almost any outdoor decor, from contemporary garden designs to more rustic, vintage-inspired settings. It gives your outdoor space an elegant, timeless look.
- Low Maintenance: Unlike other metals that might require frequent cleaning or touch-ups, brass naturally resists tarnish and weather damage, making it an easy-to-care-for option for garden lights.
- Eco-friendly: Since brass is durable and long-lasting, you’ll be reducing the need for replacements, contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendlier garden.
Dim-to-Warm GU10s: Lighting That Adapts to Your Mood
Lighting isn’t just about illumination—it’s about creating an atmosphere. Dim-to-warm GU10 bulbs are an incredible innovation that lets you adjust the colour temperature of your lights based on your mood or the time of day. These bulbs transition smoothly from cool daylight (around 4000K) to a warm, inviting amber glow (around 2200K), mimicking the natural change in light you would experience as the sun sets.
For your garden, dim-to-warm GU10s are perfect for creating a relaxing environment after a long day. You can enjoy bright, cool lighting for tasks or social gatherings, then dim it to a warm, golden hue for evenings, whether you’re unwinding with a book or hosting a cozy dinner party.
The Power of Garden Dimmers
One of the simplest ways to enhance your outdoor lighting experience is by installing garden dimmers. Garden dimmers offer complete control over the intensity of your lighting, letting you set the perfect mood for any occasion. Whether you're hosting an outdoor gathering, enjoying a quiet evening, or simply strolling through your garden at night, a dimmer switch allows you to adjust your lights to the exact level you want.
Festoon Lighting: Adding Charm and Warmth to Your Garden
No garden lighting scheme is complete without the whimsical and romantic touch of festoon lighting. Festoon lights are made up of a series of bulbs connected by a wire, and they create a beautiful inviting glow. Perfect for draping over fences, pergolas, or outdoor seating areas, festoon lighting adds a charming and festive atmosphere that’s ideal for parties, outdoor dinners, or simply relaxing under the stars.
These lights are available in a variety of styles, including LED options. Best of all, festoon lighting can be used year-round, adding a touch of magic to your garden whether it's spring, summer, or autumn.
Garden Lights, What and Where to Use,
If you live in a smaller garden area the first thing to do is get a plan of the layout, where or where in the future you’re going to put furniture, BBQ’s, outside dining tables, trees etc. the lighting will all fit around this. Starting at the back of the house our lighting and design team would advise wall lights next to the back door, French doors or bi-folds. You would try match the colour of the light fitting to the colour of your window and door frames. If you want something more striking Fraser recommends Lanterns, bulkheads or feature wall light.
If you are looking to add security then an external led flood light would be perfect for security as it will be able to light up the whole space perfect for a security camera. You would want to choose a light with an inbuilt PIR sensor so if there is any movement in the garden the lights will turn on. Our team would also recommend a switch in the inside of your house so when you’re in the garden yourself it doesn’t spoil the rest of the lighting in the garden.
If you have decking or paving then a perfect lighting option for this is some inset walkover Led ground lights, these enhance the change in the garden if you run them around the edge of decking/paving to up light the perimeter, these also come in handy to make the step down off the raised area safer.
Next, we recommend establishing a perimeter around the garden by running lighting around it. Our lighting design team recommends LED spike lights every 2/3 meters or one per fence panel or around trees or paths. The great thing about spike lighting for trees and bushes is you will get a beautiful silhouette behind wherever you place the light. Another benefit of a spike light is you can re-position them easily.
The other light that we recommend for gardens is of course the festoon lighting.
Another option other than spikes or festoon is to use a smaller down facing wall light. These work perfect for fence posts as the light direction is downwards so it gives a nice v shape of light downwards.
On larger gardens we would recommend incorporating LED tape into the lighting design. With led tape you don’t actually want to see it you want to try and hide it under or behind something. this would be perfect for an outdoor bar, BBQ area. If you are building a wooden frame pergola you can cut a small grove into the overhead wood and fir a recessed LED profile. You can also use LED tape with water features and ponds. You can line the perimeter with LED tape to cascade a wash of light over the surface of the water (please note for this instance you would want to use IP65 LED tape to make it last).
